Theatre Of Tragedy - Astray

Switch to another dream, to a quiet spite
Think back at some time when there was a fading touch
Colour me white and paint the vistas grey
Everyday there's an electric ray of all too many shimmer-lights

[Chorus 1 (x2):]
And I can see another time
Another face, for***ten days

I can see another time -- another time, a setting sun
I can see another place -- a rising sun

[Chorus 2:]
Let's get this to work again
Take our souls to the everlasting parade
I never saw it coming this way -- to an end
But now there's nothing left behind
Let's all begin

I see it slip away
A dream that fades away
Don't let them lead you far and astray

Keepsakes of past years, unravelled by phone
And the fog is a traveller through the inner city zones
A million pictures painted on the pavement stones
That get soft like words through the smoke

[Chorus 1 x4]
[Chorus 2]

Theatre Of Tragedy - Automatic Lover

Don't you wanna end up with this mister?
He is just being nice with his kisses and he
Thinks you're not one of the smart ones Say it darling
Doesn't seem like you want that kind of honey, honey
From the automatic lover's store To the first floor of your backroom door
From the spin-spin of the fickle swirl
In a freak-freak dance of the showroom girl
From the window of the red lit shop To the hop-hop of the fluid swap
To the bang-bang when the wallet's gone
And the run-run when the heat is on From the automatic lover's store
To the first floor of your homeroom door
And the cry-cry of your better half To the laugh-laugh at your minuscule staff
From the plead-plead when you really want in
To the knead-knead 'fore the blanket-spin
From the flush-flush of the bed-time art
To the raging heart when she doesn't do her part
Don't you wanna end up with this mister?
He is just being nice with his kisses and he
Thinks you're not one of the smart ones
Say it darling Doesn't seem like you want that kind of honey, honey

Out the door-door to the dance-dance hall
To the bawl-bawl of the bar room brawl
From the drink-drink until on the floor
To the blink-blink of the girl next door
To the rock-rock until off the hinge
To the luck-luck to complete the binge
From the rush-rush when you're feeling bored
To the second floor of your homeroom door
To the plead-plead when you really want in
And the knead-knead 'fore the blanket-spin
From the fug-fug of the bedroom air
To the hug-hug of the professional lair
To the automatic lover's store
Where it feel-feels much less like a chore
To the lick-lick of the lipstick lip
To the electric trip of the perfect strip
Hey you are you oh-oh are you I owe you a go-go are you
Nothing but an oh-oh yeah
I owe you a kissy baby Hey you are you oh-oh are you
I owe you a go-go are you Nothing but an oh-oh yeah
I owe you a kissy baby.

Theatre Of Tragedy - Bacchante

Ado with a mean woe,
An ado as aglow:
Belying the paynim
Thou rewrot'st the tome -
An ivy-crown'd and dancing,
And fawn'd and trancing -
Espying the surly wud,
And heeding her not.

Celebration

Afear'd of Bacchante,
And dost thou 'hold the yill? -

Behind is the sleepless;
Eyne 'holding na mo.

Celebration

«Onto the paper scribe I the words that fro my heart move -
With every dight letter, with the ebb of ink,
The point of the quill my penmanship doth mirror;
Tales of theft and adultery,
Tales of devilment and witchery -

Tales of me.

Celebration Bacchari

Theatre Of Tragedy - Begin & End

Don't know inside from upside-down
We praise the famed unwittingly
If we had read that we are but illiterate
What would we do?
Keep inventory of things that we do not owe

Even at a standstill we are spinning round and round
We're lost but found
Nowhere is right here
Talk to us long enough and you will be perplexed
Begin and end

We talked in a language that we didn't understand
Hiding things that were obscure while the people are searching
Leaving our lives, staying in the same location
Proving me to you, proving you to me
Looking at pictures of people we do not know

A first preview of something we have seen before
A host of one tracing the invisible

We danced side by side to a different monotone
We practised our stargaze every day in the daylight
A plan with no abstract outlined in the concrete
A man opposite us is out-of-sight and unknown

Never far nor all too near

Theatre Of Tragedy - Black As The Devil Painteth

An artist is what is call'd the self that the brush holdeth -
Though hath it then caringly caress'd the Canvas of to-morrow?,
O Canvas! for thee I hold my tool - still! passionless it quivereth,
Minding not that my hands are more than apt;
My Muse,

Where is hidden
The blue-hud arch'neath the High Heaven's rich emblazonry,
The flowery meadow, embrac'd by the horizon - snowflakd and aery mountains,
In which the barebreastd maidens dance to the lay o' midsummer,

Aloft the distant lazy flapping of the doves in vainglore.

O Canvas!, wherefore canst thou these images not allow? -
I deem a projection of my Theatre they should be! -
Then, I challenge thee the wisdom of naysaying the yearns o' mine -
What is this unforseen that not enjoineth light shades to be skillfully paintd?

The raven sky prey'd on by the snowfill'd, blustery clouds,
Unadornd the meadow - hunger driveth the wolf out of the wood,
The maidens chaind and whippd within a dreary dungeon -
And, lo! 'twixt the wizen roses a mossy grave:
"The Devil is as Black as he Painteth" -
O Canvas! wherefore?...

Theatre Of Tragedy - Bring Forth Ye Shadow

Time is an abyss -
Profound as a thousand nights;
I sojourn my haste, I make respites
For what availeith this eager pace?
One step more naught to face,
Save the heirloom fatal kiss.

I rave no more 'gainst Time or Fate,
For lo! my own shall ne'er come to me,
Yet! - Who doth my future narrate?
Dim the lights - I cannot see!
Bring forth ye Shadow! -
With whom danceth thou?

Time hath stopp'd -
Yet for others ne'er halteth;
For me the Pages of Life do not turn,

Lo! - on the funeral pyre they burn.
The oh so eathing Velvet Darkness they fear -
Heed! - wherefore delve a burrow,
When in my arms "O! Come here"? -
I say, elsewhither is naught but sorrow!

For what deemest thou so dear thy blood
When through my veins it could flood? -
Bide to merry - make me unaptly;
And hence grant me the fell gift,
The gift of passing on the dark trick.
'Tis such a brazen act of erotic;
Trifle for thee, yet for me grandly thrift,
O! such an innocence depriv'd so hastily -

Alas, for what deemest thou so dear thy blood
When through my veins it will flood?

Theatre Of Tragedy - Cassandra

He gave to her, yet tenfold claim'd in return -
She hath no life but the one he for her wrought;
Proffer'd to her his wauking heart - she turn'd it down,
Riposted with a tell-tale lore of lies and scorn.

Prophetess or fond?,
Tho' her parle of truth:
"I ken to-morrow - refell me if ye can!",
Yet the kiss and breath - Apollo's bane -
Sëer of the future, not of twain,
"Sicker!", quoth Cassandra.

Still, is she lief and quaint in his eyne, a sight divine? -
A mistress fuell'd by his prest haughtiness -
If he did grant, wherefore then did he not foresee,
Belike egal as it to him might be?!
